Our story starts back in April of this year when we lost our
Corgy "Rundle" from complications from seizures and other internal
problems. He was like a little boy in a fur coat to us. He was about 5-6
years old when we adopted him from our Son Robert and his wife Stacy and
moved him from northern California to Corona. Stacy was his owner for the
early years, getting him from a friend who found him on a road in Idaho
when only a puppy.
We had a little over 5 wonderful years with him before
he passed and I just thought I couldn't go on without him. A few weeks
later we started looking for another dog to try and fill the void. The
family looked at all the shelters in and around Corona and Riverside for a
medium sized dog, but to no avail. We then heard about Petco showing
animals on the weekends and we immediately went to the Cajalco Petco where
Tara works. We found cages of darling dogs and found out some had been
abused or taken from homes or found wandering
and put into foster homes waiting for adoption. My Daughter in law and I
came upon a cage with a tiny little dog in it with the saddest little
brown eyes I have ever seen. We immediately started talking to him and he
began turning circles in his cage. He began to perk up and turn his head
from side to side as we spoke to him.
He was a little 4 lbs Yorkie,
about 3-4 years old. I looked at the other adorable dogs but kept going
back to him. I went and picked up my husband from work after asking Tara
if she could please hold onto him until we got back. We returned and I
showed my husband and we were allowed to take him out of the cage. He
was very shy and afraid and we were told he had been abused, bruised ribs,
etc. Well, we all fell in love with Rugsby and took him home. He was so
terribly timid and wouldn't trust anyone for weeks. Then he began to warm
up to my Daughter in law and myself.
We worked very hard at gaining his
trust and now after 4 months, "Rugrat"! rules the house. The family says he is a spoiled Mommies boy, but he is
finally happy, healthy and gives as much love as he gets. He loves to go
bye-bye in the car, loves new tee shirt outfits and his favorite outing
is Petco. He has to see all the new toys and tease for one. Of course he
gets what he wants. He loves to sleep in my arms and roll over for tummy
rubs. His little sad eyes are now happy little brown eyes. We love him
dearly. Thanks Tara and Petco for bringing this wonderful little guy
into our lives.
