Phoebe & Napolean...

In September I had a dog, Phoebe (an American Staffordshire Terrier, commonly called a pit bull) and Capone (a black long hair cat).  When I came home from vacation, my cat was missing and my dog was just devastated, her grief was awful and painful for me.  They had been together for 3 years and were serious companions.  She would be out waiting for him at the fence where he usually came in and greeted her.  She waited out there for days and I couldn't stand it.  I searched the newspaper for kittens in the area, but there weren't any, I did this Saturday and Sunday, but knew that I could not go to work Monday and leave her alone.  So, off to Pet Co I went Sunday morning, looking for a cat.  Here is what I DIDN'T want......... dog, long hair, white, male.

I didn't want a dog because I wasn't going to have the time to train one and spend the time socializing the two of them.  Phoebe is great with people, kids, cats, but not dogs, unless they are smaller than her.  Here is what I left with: dog, long hair, white, male.... And we are all very happy with the choice.  I got cranky after I was there for a while and realized that I couldn't find a cat that I wanted and had already ruled out a dog.  But there was this little long hair, white and black, male dog, young, not even a year, but not a pup.  He was quiet and nice enough.

Tera came up and started talking to me.  We took him out of the cage and I walked him past the other dogs and cats.  I was watching to see how he would react to them, especially the cats.  He was good.  So, Tera and I talked some more.  I told her that I had Phoebe, a pit, and expected her to tell me that Napoleon was no longer available; I have come to expect the negative reaction due to her breed.  She is a great dog, but you know people don't believe that, especially since she is brindle with very little white on her face, so she looks mean.  But, Tera said, "Go home and bring her back with you".  Which I thought was a great reply, as I didn't know how I was going to introduce the two.  I did, and we walked them, and they did great... with Tera's help as I was a little too staunch with Phoebe. Tera said that this was the best case scenario.  So, we did the paperwork and I took him home.

The next day was Monday and I had to go to work.  I separated the two, because they didn't know each other and I didn't want him to get hurt, she out weighs him by 40 pounds.  I came home to find them together.  With her head she lifted a chain link gate off of the pins so that they could have access to each other.  They have been together ever since.  It is funny to watch them play, he starts it.  He has to stand on the couch to be at eye level with her.  He shows her all of his pearly whites along with snaps, snarls, and growls and the chase starts!  They are both very fast; he can last longer, although she usually traps him first.  She is 8 years and he is under a year.  They play like this every day. But she was still going outside at night and waiting for Capone, now Napoleon was joining her, although he didn't know what they were waiting for.

In the meantime I found a lady that had a litter of older kittens and made arrangements to wait and take two after Phoebe and Napoleon had a solid three weeks together.  The kittens are about 6 months old, a male and female, white with black patches... Just like Napoleon.  The kittens, Zeke and Zaza, have been with us for a little over a month now.

Phoebe no longer goes out and waits for Capone, everyone gets along at my zoo.  Napoleon sleeps with Zaza and plays like crazy with her.  Zeke is a little more independent. This is what happens when a dog is seriously spoiled and needs pets of her own.......Phoebe has her friends and is now happy

Napoleon had a new home and new friends and is happy. Zeke had a new home and new friends and is happy. Zaza is in heaven..........And I am happy!!!! They are a great bunch, all with very different personalities, all very loving.
