Mom came into the rescue with 12 puppies who
were only a day old. About 9 days later, Mom stopped nursing and
Foster Mom had to step in and take over. For over 3 weeks, Victoria,
family and friends bottle fed 12 puppies. They all survived. That in
and of itself is a miracle. How Victoria ever survived is still a
miracle to us today as she was the one person who bottle fed every
single time. Sometimes she had help but at 3am she was up by herself
taking care of them.
Now, the pups have all gone to their homes and Alexia is from that
litter that are alive because of the dedication of one woman.

Hi Victoria!
So sorry it has taken me some time to get back to you here....Layla is
great. She is 45 pounds now and very lean. Definitely a Shepherd and
Lab mix. She is such a sweet dog. She is not a dominant dog nor is she
too passive. We took her for puppy training a few months ago and the
trainer is also an animal behaviorist. He said that she is a sweet,
sweet dog and that he just loves dogs with a demeanor like Layla's.
She did really well in puppy school and can sit, lie down and heel
when walking on a leash (esp. with a gentle leader collar!). She loves
to chew her big rawhide bones and follow us around the house
everywhere we go. She is obsessed with fetch and her favorite dog park
is a new one that opened by the Santa Monica Airport. When we turn
onto the street the dog park is on, she get's really excited. Layla is
great with other dogs and likes to play chase. She is great with
people - children are very exciting and she is learning to sit if she
wants them to say hello to her - this is something we are still
working on as she wants to jump on them and give them kisses. She
barks now to let usk now someone is at the door. Layla is such a great
dog - sweet, smart, obedient most of the time - I can't think of a
better dog for us. I hope she's with us a long time! Attached are 2
pictures for you from our recent trip to Carmel. When we travel in the
car, she sits in the back seat and rests her head on my husband's
shoulder! How are the other dogs in the litter?
Best, Nicole Elmes
Layla was one of Abie's pups.
