Elfie...
3/16/06:
Everything is going good.
He did very well yesterday. Did not touch a thing in the
house. He is using his doggie door. He slept by my side the
whole night through.
Steve got home first
yesterday and he was outside ( I left him in, so he's using his
door) . He played in the yard with him and is getting closer
and trusting him more.
We took him for a walk in
the neighborhood. We are going to take him for a walk every
night.
He is so well trained and
eager to please. We both love him to death and can't thank you
enough. When we lost our dogs, I never imagined finding a good
replacement. Elfie certainly fills that.

Just a quick note to update
you on Elfie. He's adjusting well at being spoiled. He has a new
groomer we have used for years. He's very gentle and did a wonderful
job on him. Saturday was the first trip to the vet. They also fell
in love with Elfie. We walk every day as it's good for both of us.
We got him a life vest for his first camping and boating trip in
April. We'll get you some pictures. He's bonding
to me better and eating more. We've also tried some
different kibble. He likes it better with the softer nuggets. We'll
always bring him a treat from dinner when we eat out. He seems to
have adjusted real well to this life. I'll send more later. He's
such a good boy!!!!!

3/31/06:
All is doing well. We got
Elfie a doggie life jacket to wear on the boat. It came on Weds.
and we tried it on him. I was almost certain he was going to e-mail
you to come pick him up. If looks could kill, we'd be goners. He
wouldn't even walk in it. He didn't know if it was a punishment or
what it was. I know he will get used to it. We can't wait to take
him for a trip in the motor home and boat. We are going next week.
We will send you pictures.
Thank you again.
Molly
4/4/06:
Got a new camera, just trying
it out. Elfie took time out from protecting house to be my picture
volunteer.

4/14/06:
How are you? I sent these photos
to you one but not sure you got them. If you get this let me know. As
you can see, Elfie is getting more at home everyday. The camping trip
was a real fun time for him, chasing deer, etc. As you can see, camping
can sure wear a poor dog out.

Update:
10/10/06: Just a quick note to let you know that Elfie is doing just
wonderful. We have season tickets to UCLA football games. We take the
motor home and tailgate before the games, which entails B.B.Q.s. He
stays in the motor home during the games, but is outside keeping his eye
on the food and doing heavy begging and getting his wish.
We store the motor home away from the house , so when he sees it pull
up, he's in there ready to go even though we're not leaving until the
next day. He loves it.
He now has taken to sleeping on our bed, especially, since it's cooling
down. He likes to get in the middle of us, so he can get more pets. He
actually stretches out
and hogs up a lot of the space.
He is very playful and is very happy. The only thing he doesn't like is
getting groomed.
Our neighbors have a shop and take him in early in the morning every
other week. He's still asleep and we have to drag him down to their
house.
Hope all is fine with you,
Molly
The Campers are back. They got back last evening. Elfie was dead to
the world. He slept solid. Elfie hung out with the teenage girls who
spoiled him. I know they fed him treats. They loved him and he clung to
them. Steve didn't take any pictures, but we'll be going up there later
and will get pics of him in the water. He doesn't like the water deep,
but loves the shallow water. The first time we took him on the boat he
was a little leery, but now he owns it. Somebody else's dog tried to
get on and he wouldn't let him on, but on the other hand, Elfie jumped
on a complete stranger's boat ( another plontoon like ours). He
startled the people because they didn't see him jump on. They were
eating lunch. Steve was certain that's why he got up there. Lunch and
swimming go together. He is enjoying the water.
Take care and we will
keep you posted and send some pics later.
P.S. He took my spot on the bed in the motor home. He slept next to
Steve with his on the pillow.
There are moments in each one
of our rescue lives that we must let go of dogs we desperately want to
keep. Elfie was such a dog. In another time, another place, another
life, our family would have kept Elfie and he would have lived out his
years with us. But with a bustling family and a every growing active 4
year old and
already a house of dogs and cats, Elfie had to find a home of his own.
But that doesn't mean there weren't tears and painful tears at that. But
then you get emails, pictures, calls and follow ups and you know you've
made the right decision. We found the right home for Elfie as hard as
that was, with Steve and Molly. Never before have I ever been so
grateful for a family. They are truly angels and we're thrilled to have
them as part of the Zara's List Family and as the new parents of Elfie.
