Hello Tera,
I've been meaning to send you more pictures of BeBe (aka Frosty) for
awhile, but just never seemed to get to it. She has had lots of adventures
and is learning so well. I had never traveled with a dog before, but we
took her to Colorado with us last month and she was just a little trooper.
She loved the snow and just romped and rolled in it. She has her own car
seat and loves to ride with us. She is still a little insecure when one of
us leaves the truck without her. She needs to have both her people in view
when we're traveling.
She has stopped burying all her treats, but still loves to dig. She always
helps in the garden by searching for gophers. I often have to throw her in
the tub for a rinse after we have been out in the garden. She never seems
to mind. She loves the water and will dive in the Koi pond at our favorite
park if we're not careful. My other dogs would never even go out on the
patio after a rain until it was completely dry. I have to be careful BeBe
doesn't get inside after I've been watering. She runs through the
sprinkler and is as likely to lay down in a puddle as not. When she's good
and soaked, she goes digging for gophers. If I forget and leave the door
open, she will tear around the house leaving muddy foot prints everywhere.
Her favorite thing to do is to go jump on Ken when she's good and soaked.
BeBe's favorite place to sleep is as close to Ken as she can get, but when
he gets up, she comes and gets on my pillow. She sticks pretty close to us
still, but has finally started to go out in the backyard on her own. She
goes out and does her business now without us having to accompany her. She
has also learned to go on pee pads if she has to go before we get up. She
has a funny schedule and I can't seem to alter it much. She wants to play
around 10:00 when we want to go to bed. Then she wants to get up at about
6:00. Needless to say, after trying until midnight to get her to settle
down, I don't want to get up at 6:00. She is doing better, though. I give
her a chewy and she settles down.
She has finally started to bark when she hears the mailman or meter
reader, an indication she finally recognizes this is her home. She is not
a yapper though, unlike the three dogs next door. If I tell her on our
walks, "Let's go home" she knows which way to go. She doesn't get into
things when we're gone. But it is so hard to leave her because she always
hops up in her chair to have her leash put on when she knows we're
leaving. She knows immediately if we're getting ready to go out. If we are
taking her, she goes straight to the truck and hops in the minute the door
is opened.
I have given up taking her to dog parks. Invariably a fight erupts and she
is terrified. We were rushed once by a big curious pup and she just
screamed. I can't put her through that. I wish there was some place where
only little dogs were allowed because she does fine with others her own
size. She gets plenty of exercise on our walks and here in the yard, so
there's no reason for her to be terrorized by big dogs. I do wish I could
let her off leash more though. She loves to tear around at the beach or in
the park when no big dogs are around.
She has been to the groomers and they just loved her. They said she was so
sweet. I felt like a mom on the first day of preschool leaving their kid.
But my groomers are wonderful and she did great. They thought she was a
bichon. She doesn't act like a poodle or a bichon. I have had both. She is
not a phoof dog at all. She acts much more like some kind of terrier. She
"kills" her toys like a ratter and with all the digging and jumping in the
water, she doesn't act like any poodle I've ever had. But we just love her
to pieces. Now if we could just convince the cat how wonderful she is. The
cat could do without BeBe's rambunctious ways. She has, however, learned
not to run when BeBe tries to chase her. And she will box BeBe's ears if
she pesters too much. BeBe is learning to leave her alone - most of the
time.
I jokingly gave her a fancy name before I found out she is not a "fancy"
dog. We end up calling her Beebers most of the time.

I couldn't keep her clean long enough after she was
groomed to get a picture of her all phoofy. |
