"I know you're picking up a Cocker Mom and pups today, do you think you could pick up a mean pregnant Chihuahua..."
I'm never shocked when a shelter thinks a Chihuahua is mean. They generally aren't very friendly in that setting but give them a few moments in the comforts of home, some home cooked chicken and rice meal by Karen and they're suddenly your best friend. So we took her in. She's pitch black. She's probably 6lbs when she's not carrying a belly full of babies and until she felt safe, we just talked to her and let her come to us. You would never know now that someone once called this love muffin mean. She's the farthest thing from it and she wants nothing more than to climb in your lap, flip over on her back (ok, not doing a lot of flipping but maybe more rolling is appropriate...) so you can rub her belly. She's a love. She doesn't mind the other dogs and is happy to boss them around and the cats don't mean anything to her unless they're in her spot on the couch next to Foster Mom. Then she just let's them know she's gonna sit on them if they don't move.
Now, you can see this little bundle of Mom with babies inside running throughout the house. She's quite the sight. The minute she hears her foster mom's voice she starts crying and begging to get to her...She's a cutie pie and now we're just waiting for the arrival of the Nights that are due any day now.

Update: March 20, 2007
April 10, 2007
They were born March 25th.
Little Dipper: She's just small.. She was the first one to open her eye, the first one to crawl out of the crate alone, the first one to eat whenever possible!! She's got a nice full happy belly just the tiny one. They all have their eyes open now, and we are moving them to the pool since they are crawling all over.

The nights are 5 weeks old today, walking and running everywhere. We put them in the wading pool to keep them contained, but they are all able to jump out! Time for plan B!
They all have distinct sweet personalities, with Leia being the feistiest and LiDi close on her heels. LiDi looks the most like a Chihuahua, while the other all have rounder heads and ears. Sometimes we think Dad may have been a beagle, especially with Libra's coloring and personality, but there is really no way to tell. Draco and Chewbaca, the two boys, are the first ones out of the pool and wandering. They love to explore, and they love to hang out with the kids. All of the puppies are happy to be held and played with, rushing to the kids when they see them.
This batch of puppies has been our sweetest so far. They cry to be held and then fall soundly asleep once you pick them up.
