Dora and the Explorers

It's raining pregnant and whelping Moms at the shelter. Just when we say we can't take one more in, another one pops up. What do you do? Just ask for a foster and suddenly you realize, "Ask and they will come..." We promised this mom she wouldn't be at the shelter long. When we were at the shelter we'd hear people making fun of her or telling her how ugly she was and right then we knew she couldn't stay. We vowed we'd do something to find her a foster home. I shook my head wondering where another one would come from but we didn't have to wonder long when a rescue favorite Animal Control Officer stepped up and suddenly we have added a new foster to our group. She volunteered to foster any Mom and pups and wouldn't you know, she just happens to love Pugs. Well, we had a Pug mix mom for her!

Dora is the most precious, loving, sweet, docile Mom you could ever want to foster. She didn't care that we were touching her babies or checking them out at the shelter. They weren't thriving in that environment (big surprise!) but they did once they were settled at home. We know there was a "small" one when we brought her home but we can't figure out who that would be now. They're all growing so big!

Look for Dora's pups to be available in mid to late December as they'll be ready to go to their new homes right around Christmas time.

Dora's Explorers are 7 weeks old as of November 30th. Momma Dora or Dough-Dough as she is known around her foster home is a Pug mix. She weighs about 12lbs. and clearly is a Pug but possibly something else in there. She whelped at the shelter and had these beautiful little babies that she kept safe and protected. After a week we were able to take them into a foster home where they have lived since then. We are guessing on who Dad is and our experienced foster home (former Animal Control officer) is guessing Dad had some Tibetan Spaniel in him!

The Explorers have lived with dogs, cats and children. They are very well socialized. They are little love bugs who instantly respond to your voice and to you. We will consider homes with small children if they have experience with small breed dogs. Otherwise, children need to be 7 years and older for this litter. The puppies range in size from about 2lbs-4lbs. We expect their full grown size will be 12-15lbs, though that can only be an estimate. This litter has all males. Boys rule, girls drool!

We are accepting applications and will set up appointments to meet the puppies and pursue an adoption immediately once we have an approved application. The puppies will go to their homes when they are 9 weeks old and altered.

Lewis and Clark: They not only look alike but they act alike. They are in the truest sense the Explorers of the group. They will venture off whether everyone else is going or not. They'll try anything new once. They are the meeters and the greeters of the group. They are right there to say Hi whenever you walk in the door. They love to romp and play outside and the minute they hear you, they are running inside!

Columbus: He's the one the first to grab the toys, be in the food bowl, fall asleep and shoot out the door the minute it opens and he sees freedom to be with you! He's a sweetheart who just has the warmest heart. He's on the small side, smooth coat like Mom and is an absolute doll baby. He really has Moms look and her low key temperament.

Magellan: If there is a sweet innocent one in the litter, this little guy is it. He doesn't demand anything, he's always in the back waiting to be picked up. His siblings are always climbing on him. Like Mom he has that fabulous temperament that can just go with anything that is happening. He's never really bothered by anyone or anything.

Marco Polo: He is the largest in the group. Just think of the Dough Boy because that's him. He's one big lover. He doesn't really demand attention. Some of his other siblings are right there making their demands known and he just goes with the flow. He loves to give kisses and will sit in your lap until you tell him it's time to go!
