She was in the back building, big as a balloon inflated and ready to burst. She would claw at the cage and beg you to take her out. Once out she would leap into your lap, despite her bulging belly. She was friendly from the beginning. The Kennel Attendants had named her Diamond from the beginning. "You know, she's a Diamond in the rough...." It's rough around here! It's rough to get out of here! It's rough on a Momma to be pregnant in here...Those were just some of the things we would here from folks.

She had 10 days before she could be released b/c she had a known owner who had already verbally said he wasn't coming for her but wouldn't sign anything for fear he'd be charged money. So she sat there, pregnant and desperate. Every day we'd bring her food and tell her that we'd get her out as soon as we could. On her last day in the shelter before we could take her, she had her puppies. Five little girls. Yep, GIRLS RULE, BOYS DROOL.

Now Diamond and the Gems are in a wonderful foster home that dotes on her and her pups every move. Diamond is a pup at heart. She's quite young and obviously this is her first litter. Even so, she's a fabulous Mom who takes care of her pups so protectively. She eats like a horse which is good! She's learning not to jump on the table (she knows there is food there!) to help herself and has already mastered the doggie door. What a great little gal.

We have five little girls:
White ones: Opal and Emerald
Black ones: Ruby, Sapphire and Topaz

Date of Birth: 12/6/07 and will be listed on our Pet List at the end of January and ready to go to their new home the middle of February when they are at least 8 weeks old.
