They were only with us a few short 8 weeks but during that time they stole our hearts and as they were held and kissed goodbye a part of our soul was lost. We'd made it through the danger period of the first two weeks with the pups. They grew healthy and strong and at 8 weeks they were vaccinated, just like any other pups and yet, because of bad vaccines we lost our puppies. (We since have learned that the vaccine company has a pending civil suit by breeders who have lost their puppies b/c of bad vaccines as well.)

John, Marilyn, Kara and Daniel are a rescue's dream come true foster home. And their suffering was shared by everyone in this rescue and yet, how could any of us truly understand? The last few days of Spanky and Darla's life, John and Marilyn slept on the floor next to the pups praying, begging and pleading for them to get better. But there just wasn't any hope.

Today, Spanky and Darla joined some of our other friends at the Rainbow Bridge and there will be a day we'll meet up with them. It's a small consolation for those who fought for their lives. We know when we see them again, they'll have lots of stories to tell of how they watched over the animals that came through Zara's List, how they cheered us on as we bravely fought against those who continue to thwart our efforts and they'll tell of how they stood at the Bridge to greet those we've said goodbye to b/c unfortunately in rescue there will always be those you say goodbye to just like Spanky and Darla.

The Larson's bravely took on another litter even while their heart's were still hurting and yet mended. They know that the answer isn't that it's too painful but rather that there are others who are in need and they must go on. But no matter what, Spanky and Darla will live in all of our hearts forever.
