There are no words to tell you how much you added to our lives. You gave when no one had probably ever given to you. The shelter should have filed animal cruelty charges against your previous owner. They chose to turn a deaf ear. We chose to take you with a cantaloupe size tumor on your tail and pray that it wasn't cancerous and that it wouldn't spread. We took the tail off and all was good...for a time....You lived with us. You played with us. You gave kisses and even though you weren't crazy about kids, you were accepting of the ones in this house who only wanted to be kind to you.

When it came time for your check up the news wasn't good. But we believed in hoping against all odds and you were looking so healthy and happy. You'd never looked that happy or healthy before, so how could it have spread? We tried. We did what they told us, we told you we'd mortgage the house to save you, if only it would give us a few more years. You deserved so much. But it wasn't meant to be...And then one day we saw in your eyes, you wanted to go. We knew the moment was coming but we just weren't prepared. We just thought we'd have more time. But we knew no amount of time was ever going to be good enough for us. We loved you and you can't put a time limit on love.

So, we said our goodbyes that night as we took pictures of you in the sunset, on your favorite bed, in the spot you had loved to sit from the day you graced us in our home. You held your head up for those pictures as if to give us that one last gift. You didn't owe anyone anything. We wanted to give you the world and give you what you had been denied for so long. We'll look for you my friend at the Bridge....
