Mona
June 18,  2007

Mona is a cat that went to our vet with a sewing needle stuck in her throat. The owner choose to have her put to sleep rather than pay to fix her. Our vet couldn't do it, so he fixed the kitty and once she had healed, he contacted our rescue to see if we would take her in. We gladly did and Mona (aka Tinsel) went to Petco for adoptions. But she didn't seem to like it there and jokingly was referred to by volunteers as the cat with the evil eye due to the way she glared at everyone. She was not happy as everyone could tell by her hisses and growls, so she went into foster care.

Her foster Mom lovingly renamed her Mona due to her moans and groans for the first week. Her mom noticed that Mona's eye was irritated and took her to see the vet. Sure enough Mona's doctor confirmed that Mona had Entropian; a condition in which the pets eye roll inward, causing the eyelashes to point inside the eyelid. This condition can cause pain and possible permanent scar to the cornea, which will result in poor vision. It can also lead to chronic conjunctivitis and corneal lesions. Luckily Mona had not suffered any damage to her eye and the surgery was scheduled to fix Mona's eye before any damage could occur.

The surgery was a success and Mona is recovering at her foster parent's shop where she spends her days hanging out in the office. This poor girl has to wear a cone on her head and receive meds twice a day. She is taking it like a champ and has become quite a hit at the office. Mona comes when she is called, but is still a bit unsure of people coming into the office. She warms up quickly and is always up to investigating new people. Mona can be found standing beside her mom's chair tapping her on the leg to get her attention. She is looking for love and she finds it every time.

Mona is an awesome cat who would do great in most homes. She is loving and sweet and very friendly. She seems to enjoy the company of her foster dog sister Talulah who also visits the shop occasionally. Mona would get along with another cat, but it would take her time to adjust. Mona prefers a calm cat friendly dog the best. It will take her a few more weeks to completely recover, but she is already on the prowl for her forever home. If you are unable to adopt, Mona would appreciate any donations to help her rescuers pay for the vet bills incurred. Mona is well worth the time, money and love this rescue has given to her and they know the perfect forever home is out there somewhere waiting to welcome this precious girl into their family.

She now has her cone off.

After 2 weeks of wearing that awful cone, Mona enjoyed her trip to the vets office where her stiches were removed and her cone taken off. Mona is a wonderful girl who seems to enjoy her time at our shop. She enjoys all the friendly people that come in and now that the lamp shade jokes have stopped she enjoys them even more. Mona's eye is healing well and she is ready to go to her new home. She entertains her foster family when she helps with the typing or chases the letters on the computer screen. She has learned what break time means, breakfast! and how to get attention when everyone is hard at work. Mona is a real sweet girl with extra personality.
