Hope is a very small 5 lb. adult fawn and white Applehead Chihuahua who was brought to the shelter after being hit by a car. Our rescue was not told she was hit by a car but we were told she had an inguinal hernia that inhibited her ability to walk. Hope was covered in road rash on her side, stomach, rear legs, and tail. At first we were told it was a bad skin condition from a poor diet but it actually was from the accident. She suffered multiple injures including a tennis ball size inguinal hernia, and some pelvic injuries. She has had her hernia and spay surgery. We were anxiously awaiting her to begin walking again...But that didn't happen and then we had X-rays taken of her knees. In order to walk again and not drag herself as she has reverted to, she will require double knee surgery.

Hope has a long recovery ahead and will require a lot of time being contained so her pelvic area will heal properly and then her knees. She has exercise therapy 3 times a day. There will also be some more tests and x-rays of her pelvic area to be done in the near future to make sure all is healing as expected but the immediate need is the knee surgeries . Her injury to her skin is now healing very well. All the scabbing from the road rash is almost completely gone and her hair is now starting to grow back in.

Hope is a dog who has a fabulous personality, loves people, gets along great with all other animals and desperately deserves a chance at a normal, healthy life. Please help us give that to her.

Here's a little update on Hope:

Well, Hope finally was ready for her surgery on Tuesday September 25th. She's doing well and will get weekly visits to Dr. Bart's to check the progress of her knee surgery. She gets along amazingly well and is a truly strong soul. I'd like to thank all the folks who donated the funds to pay for her surgery, without all of you she would not have gotten the help she needed. She will be up for adoption as soon as she is released by Dr. Bart.
