Ferrari has had his double FHO (hip) surgery. He is in a fabulous foster home that has committed to his recovery but with lots of tears will send him to his permanent home once he is fully recovered.
Ferrari is a 1 1/2 year old Shih Tzu, 8-10lbs, who is not only the sweetest dog we've had in a long time but has the best disposition anyone could ask for. He originally came into the shelter covered in oil and then was treated and adopted. His owners moved and dumped him back at the shelter. When we adopted him, he was a bit shell shocked and not sure why he of all dogs could possibly be dumped at the shelter for a second time. We have promised him his days of seeing those cells are over now!
Ferrari does wonderfully with other dogs. When others have issues, he just avoids the conflict. He would be a wonderful option for kids but we prefer to adopt to older children who have had experience in their home with small dogs. Otherwise he's a wonderful candidate for just about any home that wants the world's greatest Shih Tzu.
Ferrari Update: December 6, 2006:
Ferrari has come a long way sense his surgery. He's getting stronger every day and building new muscle that he never had. He can now walk like a normal dog, something that before caused him nothing but pain. He is now starting to enjoy all the things that he never felt well enough to enjoy.
He absolutely loves to play with toys!!! He goes to the toy basket at his foster home and drags as many as he can over to his bed. Then he plays with each one, until he where's himself out.

Ferrari Final Update:
Ferrari found his forever home a long ways away in No. CA but close to our heart with a family member of one of our favorite fosters, Karen. Her mom and dad graciously opened their home and hearts to him and now he has found his forever place. A huge thank you to Dr. Bart and his work on Ferrari, foster mom who nursed him back to health and of course Ferrari's new Mom and Dad!
