Boomer
He came into the shelter as a stray at 3-4 months old. He was a big goofy puppy with a loving, playful spirit. Everyone who met him, fell instantly in love with him. He was let out daily to play with the other dogs as they have a play area for the "well behaved" dogs. One morning an officer who particularly liked him realized he was limping and something was wrong. Off to the vet and X-rays later it was discovered he had a severe knee injury that would require surgery and rehab. The mandate at the shelter was to euthanize him immediately as they don't do surgeries. The staff contacted us and asked us if we would take him on. I said we could pay for the surgery but I did not have a foster for him. So then an officer stepped up and said she would be willing to do the fostering and the rehab on him. It was a deal and Boomer would live!

His surgery was extensive and cost $1000. If all went well, he'd go on to live a productive, happy, pain-free life. A bit of a gamble with a puppy who wasn't inclined to be confined but we had to save Boomer's life and give him a shot at a full life.

Boomer currently lives with 2 small kids (2 and 4 years old). Other than his rambunctious energetic nature he is fabulous with kids. He has a wonderfully even loving temperament. The kids and Boomer often play with toys together and he has no problem with them taking them out of his mouth or playing in his food bowl as he eats and they eat and he eats.... Boomer has had play dates with several large Shepherds. He's a playing machine!

Boomer will need obedience training and he is a typical puppy. If you are looking for one who won't chew then he's not the right fella. If it's left out, he'll chew it as the kids are discovering with their toys that they "share" with him. He's very responsive to food and treats and is food motivated so training won't be difficult but it is necessary.

Boomer's rehab and surgery are done. His knee recovered wonderfully and his foster mom did a great job make sure he didn't re-injure himself and healed properly. His last check up was last week and the vet said he was good to go.
