Chris & Melisa Palomo
5 Aug 2007

Chris and I were married in June 2004. About a week before our wedding, a friend of ours came to us with a dog. She knew a local woman who was a French bulldog importer that was about to put down a handsome young frenchie! Well, of course we couldn't say no, but why was she putting him down? Oh, just some mange and ugly teeth! His mange cleared up and his teeth are still ugly, but Odie has turned out to be the most handsome Frenchie we have ever seen. Then came Mila. Mila was a beautiful little Frenchie with an attitude problem. We were absolutely heartbroken when she passed at under 2 years old, but we knew that God opened up bigger doors for us. This meant we could finally get more dogs and foster- since she just would not have another pup in the house other than Odie!

Ninja came shortly after her death, a goofy sweet pure bred Boston Terrier from the Lake Elsinore Animal Shelter! Can you believe we got the first hold on him? He has been such a fun boy to have, but I knew that I needed a little girl. You know, to dress up in pink and carry with me everywhere! So we adopted June Bug! She is our pug-chihuahua mix, but we call her our own little Designer Dog, a pughuahua! (Why pay hundreds to thousands for a mutt when you can rescue one!) She loves to sit on my lap and play princess. She owns the boys, but she lets them think they are in control.

Chris and I now had three, but the legal limit for dogs in our area was four... so what did we decide to do? Of course, get another one! But this time we decided to foster! We searched around for the perfect rescue and came across Zara's List. This is the perfect fit for us and God totally knew what He was doing hookin' us up with them!
In addition to fostering, I begged and pleaded to practice my photography skills on the rescue pups. So on my lunch break you may find me with grass stains on my knees helping get the perfect picture for the adorable little foster pups that need new homes!

Melisa and Chris jumped right in from the beginning. Not only do they foster but weekly Melisa is seen with her camera hanging around her neck as she takes photos for us. Have you noticed all the great photos? That would be the awesome work of Melisa. And of course we all get a good laugh that she had to "beg us to do the pictures." She didn't get the word photography out before we were shoving dogs at her to photograph. It's amazing how much it matters and how much it adds to our rescue.

Welcome aboard Melisa and Chris and we're so glad you're part of the Zara's List Family now!
