The King Family
It’s a house fit for a King and that’s exactly what every animal that finds his or her way into this house feels like after being there! Ana and her teenage daughters, Keri and Kristine King have been the longest running fosters for Zara’s List. They now have embarked on a new adventure and for the past year have been fostering our long term boys and girls. They take in the broken leg, hit by car or broken pelvis type dogs. They nurse them back to health and then pass them onto their new homes.

But it’s not always been so. They’ve done their share of moms and puppies, moms and kittens, large breed dogs, small little dogs and everything in between. Their passion is their cats that rule the house and the two house bunnies. And each and every dog that comes in is taught that there’s no running after the cats or bunnies in this home! Boy, do the dogs learn quickly.

Keri and Kristine were barely in Junior High when their mom one day volunteered to take in a Chow mix who didn’t have any fur. His flea issue had been neglected for so long that he didn’t have any fur left on three quarters of his body. But that wasn’t a deterrent for this family who vowed to love and care for him back to health. And so the adventure began….Fast forward and now both girls are in high school and what beautiful young girls they are who are committed to taking care of our communities animals. They not only volunteer as a foster home but are involved with taking care of a feral colony of cats in our city.

It wouldn’t be unusual to see Keri skating down the sidewalk with a dog pulling her along as mom cruises in the car next to them to make sure everyone is safe! Once the newest rehab dog is able, the King’s are ready and willing to start the walking process and once the dog is good to go, well, they usually are “going” with Keri on their evening run.

You can always tell the dogs who have been in the King home. Maybe it's the way they strut or the way they hold their head up. Almost like royalty....
